Sloppy Toms

1 lb. ground turkeySloppy Tom - Final
1/2 cup yellow onion, diced
1 Tbsp. minced garlic (about a clove)
1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 oz. tomato paste
8 oz. tomato sauce
1/4 cup water, warm
2 Tbsp. onion powder
1 Tbsp. paprika
1 Tbsp. chili powder
2 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes
1 1/2 tsp. hot sauce (OPTIONAL)
Dash of salt (OPTIONAL).  I might throw in a touch of salt, especially if your tomato sauce is no-salt, which mine is.  This recipe needs just a touch.

Prep Time: 5 min.
Cook Time: 15 min.
Total Time: 20 min.

  1. Preheat a large skillet to medium-high heat.
  2. Place the olive oil in the skillet and bring it to temperature.  Add the onion and garlic, and saute until the onion starts to become translucent.
  3. Add the tomato paste and cook for an additional two minutes.  Keep moving the paste around and breaking it up–it should pick up all the onion and garlic.
  4. Add the meat and all spices and cook until no pink remains.  Again, keep the contents of the skillet moving around to mix the tomato paste mixture in with the meat and thoroughly blend the spices.
  5. Add the remaining liquid ingredients (water, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and if using, hot sauce).  The dish should come to the proper consistency almost immediately.  Continue to cook for an additional minute.
  6. Serve and enjoy!
